What is a float valve?

What is a float valve?

A float valve is a valve used for preventing backflow during the operation of oil drilling in a field. Float valves can also be seen in the water tanks. The hollow ball of the float valve will float to check the filling of a water tank.

Brass float valves are important in the oil and gas industry. They help in preventing backflow of mud into the pipes

Swing check valve

Swing check valves

Novo-Viettiep manufactures brass swing check valves in DN 15 – DN 100. Novo-Viettiep swing check valves are easy to use and long-lasting.

What is a swing check valve?

A swing check valve is equipped with a disc which swings on a shaft. When the disc swings off the valve seat, it allows the flow to move forward. The disc will swing back to the seat in order to block any reverse flow when the flow is stopped.

The disc of brass swing check valves should be cleaned when doing maintenance, so swing check valves are normally installed where employees are present.

Novo-Viettiep swing check valves

Novo-Viettiep swing check valves are made of C3771 brass. We also use C37700 brass or no-lead brass if our customers require.

3/4 brass ball valve

What is a 3/4" ball valve?

3/4" ball valve is a ball valve which can be made of brass, bronze or stainless steel and has nominal diameter (DN) of 20 mm. This size of valve and the 1/2" brass ball valve (DN15 mm) are the most popular in valve world and people are using them the most.

There are some different types in the ball valve family such as one-way, two-way, or 3 way ball valves. You can choose different types for different purposes.

Can a gas valve be repaired?

Can a gas valve be repaired?

Only the manufacturer or certified technicians of the gas valve are allowed to make repairs.

What causes gas valve failure?

What causes gas valve failure?

There are some reasons why gas valve does not work properly. The first reason is the valve have worn out or been damaged due to basement penetration or submersion. The second reason is one or more electronic ignition components in the safety circuit may not work properly.

How to know if a gas valve is bad

How to know if a gas valve is bad.

  •    Turn off the gas valve of your appliance to see if it is able to shut down properly.
  •    If the gas valve fails to operate, open the manual switch of the valve and see if gas can flow to the main burner or pilot.

How do you know if a gas valve is opened or closed?

How do you know if a gas valve is open or closed?

If the long side of the handle is parallel to the gas flow, the valve is opened. When the handle is perpendicular to the pipe, the valve is closed.

How does a gas valve work?

How does a gas valve work?

The furnace gas valve runs by electromagnets. The safety valve supplies gas to the furnace’s pilot light. The main valve allows gas to flow to the furnace’s burner trays. If the thermocouple or the thermopile does not heat adequately, the gas valve will close.

What is a gas valve used for?

What is a gas valve used for?
A gas valve is a flow control device used to adjust the gas flow such as oxygen, sour or natural gas, and liquefied petroleum. Gas valves can be made of metal or plastic.

What is water hammer?

What is water hammer in plumbing? Water hammer in plumbing is the noise in water pipes caused when a tap is suddenly turned off.

What is a water hammer in plumbing?

Do you feel worried when hearing a suddenly noise from your pipes? That loud noise is one of common plumbing problems called a water hammer. It is also called hydraulic shock. Water hammer is caused by a pressure increase when taps, valves or water appliances are briskly shut off.

What causes water hammer?

Water hammer occurs when a faucet or valve is closed all of a sudden, causing hydraulic shock in the pipe.

How to prevent water hammer? Water hammer prevention

The following methods may reduce or get rid of water hammer:

- Decrease pressure of the water supplied to the buildings by fitting a regulator.

- Lower the velocity of fluids. To decrease water hammer, pipe-sizing graphs for some applications suggest that flow velocity should be less or equal to 1.5 m/s (1.5 meters per second)

How to fix water hammer? Water hammer fix

In order to fix water hammer issue, homeowners or plumbers need to drain the plumbing system appropriately: Close the main water valve, and open the highest tap in the building, as well as drain water from its lowest tap (The lowest tap is normally in the basement). The air chamber will then fill back with air rather than water, which helps to solve the water hammer issue.

How to stop water hammer?

Plumbers or homeowners can cure water hammer by closing the water at the back of the waterlogged chamber, and opening the trepassing faucet, as well as, allowing the faucet to drain entirely. When all the water flows out from the chamber, the chamber will be filled again with air and restore the cushion.

Where to install water hammer arrestor?

The answer to the question where to place the hammer arrestor depends on the actual piping arrangement. You should notice that the best places to install hammer arrestor are either near the pump or the check valve which originates the hammer, or at further points in which the pipe changes its direction, for instance, at the top of pump risers.

What is better a gate valve vs a ball valve?

A ball valve is better at forming a tight seal than a gate valve. Ball valves are also more reliable and longevous than gate valves. Therefore, they are normally used for control and shutoff applications.

As a ball valve can open and close immediately, it is more likely to cause water hammer in pipes than a gate valve.

How to stop brass fittings from leaking?

How to stop brass fittings from leaking

Leaking fittings or pipes can lead to very high utility bills, wastage of water, and present danger in your house. Prevention is better than cure, so you should choose high-quality brass fittings to install in your water pipeline. Sometimes leakage happens even with careful choice of brass pipe fittings. In this case, you should know how to fix a tap or brass fittings from leaking.

The common brass pipe fittings are union tees, elbows, crosses, couplings, and adapters. There are two ways to prevent threaded brass unions or any other threaded brass fittings from leaking.

1. Stop brass fittings from leaking by using Teflon tape.

Tightly wrap the Teflon tape around the male pipe three to five times over and clockwise in the direction of its threads

Push the Teflon tape into the male threads and move your thumb around them to make sure that no air bubbles are left inside.

After that, tightly screw the brass fittings back together.

2. Stop brass fittings from leaking by using a pipe thread compound.

Start by unscrewing the two threaded pipe fittings joined together

Clean all old sealant and grit from both female and male threads, then dry the threads with a towel.

Put a few sealant drops on the threads of the male fitting.

After that, screw both fittings back together, then wipe around them using a towel to remove any excessive thread compound.

Wait until the sealant to dry completely before you run any water.

A plumbing sealant is usually effective and could stop the leaks from the threaded brass fittings.

Many brass fittings are installed on copper pipes with brass compression fittings, which are composed of an outer compression nut and a ferrule. With brass compression fittings, thread compound is not necessary as it is the compression of ferrules between the pipes and nuts that seal.

Gently tightening the compression nut will help to stop the leakage. However, if the threads of the brass pipe fittings or nuts are damaged, you should replace the pipe fittings as it is the only solution to the leaks.
